Cucumber apple juice

Cucumbers are surprisingly intense when it is juiced. For optimum benefits, juice the entire cucumber, including the skin and seeds; most of its nutrients including calcium, zinc and vitamin K, are found just under the skin. Lettuce has calming qualities and this drink makes a great nightcap.

Ingredients:

  • 2 green apples
  • 100g spinach
  • 1 cucumber
  • ½ head of iceberg lettuce
  • Mint for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  • Wash the ingredients with water
  • Cut the fruit and vegetables into small enough to fit into your juicer
  • (note: do not peel the skin of the cucumber or apples, as there are added nutrients just under and including the skin)
  • Place all the ingredients through your juicer
  • Pour into a tall drinking glass, add mint (optional) and stir to mix all the flavors
  • Serve

Orange banana smoothie

Enjoy a refreshing twist on a smoothie by adding coconut water instead of milk.  A great source of vitamin C, antioxidants and dietary fiber.

Ingredients:

Serves 2

  • 1 orange
  • 1 banana
  • 1 carrot
  • 2 cups of coconut water
  • 1 teaspoon of honey for sweetness (optional)
  • 3-4 ice-cubes for extra chill (optional)

Instructions:

  • Wash all vegetables and fruit with water
  • Cut the ends off the carrot and grate
  • Peel the banana
  • Peel the orange and cut in half
  • Coconut water (can be purchased from the health food store or supermarket)
  • Place all the ingredients into your blender
  • Blend the ingredients until smooth

Lemon and mint drink

A Lemon and Mint Drink make a refreshing summer beverage.  You can also drink this mix when you body needs a healthy cleanse or to boost your digestion.

Ingredients:

  • 8 cups filtered water
  • 1 freshly squeezed lemon
  • 2 lemons, (slice the lemons thinly)
  • Lots of ice-cubes
  • A handful of fresh mint

Calories: very low, only 7-8 calories per serving 

Next: Combine all ingredients

  • Place the 8 cups of filtered water in a jug or pitcher of your choice
  • Add the freshly squeezed juice of 1 lemon(you can add more lemon juice if you like a stronger lemon flavour)
  • Slice your 2 lemons and add to the jug/pitcher
  • Add the fresh mint to your jug/pitcher ( you can use a rolling pin to lightly bruise/crush the mint leaves to release the added flavor of  mint)
  • Lastly, add the ice-cubes

Next, stir all ingredients and place the jug in the fridge to chill (approximately 10 minutes before serving). This will allow the flavors to infuse together.

Beetroot and apple juice

  • Remove the stems from the kiwi fruit, beetroot and apples
  • Cut all fruit and vegetables into smaller chunks (cut so that they can fit into your juicer)
  • Juice all the ingredients
  • Pour into a tall drinking glass and stir if necessary
